What would happen if you dropped the little balls in your life and only gave your energy & time to the big movers? Take a deep, long breath and visualize the outcome.  Could you build better….

  • Momentum in your business?
  • Intimacy in your relationships?
  • Wellness in your life?
  • Connection with your spirituality?
  • Time to launch your next big idea?
  • Fuel to your passion?

What does wild success look like in each of these areas to you? Will you take a moment and write down your answer?  Bullet by bullet – your life is worth this time.

On a scale of 1 – 10, 10 being I’m on the magic carpet of excellence, where are you in each area of your life? And now for instant joy bomb:  Visualize how you would feel if each of these areas was AT LEAST a 9.  Possible?  Only if you get serious about shifting your time and energy allocation.

Every day, your attention is pulled in a million meaningless directions (picture facebook, TV, negative conversations, video games) and in a million low impact directions. This one is trickier to define as low impact often shows up looking quite snazzy in its urgency tuxedo.  It appears to need to be done, but it doesn’t bring value to your quality of life movers.  Here are examples:  checking email, grocery shopping, cleaning your home, filling out school forms, attending meetings, and the list goes on.

Can you stop doing them? Maybe.  A trick I use is to hire people to support me with these types of activities.  I run two companies, have active children, and I’m serious about living a wholehearted life steeped in my family, faith, wellness, and my passions that light me up.  I’m not willing to mess around with the quality of my day, so I gladly make the investment to outsource tasks that drain or pull me away from what’s most important.  This has a hidden benefit of bringing amazing people into my life. What about what you can’t outsource?  Explore different ways to get it done.

  • I check text & email 3 times a day and turn off all instant alerts of new messages.
  • I check voicemail daily; barely. (gasp). The world has yet to end because of this.
  • I replaced the courtesy rule of “reply to every message same day” to the passion rule of “reply to the messages linked to my vision same day & delete the rest.” Does this frustrate people? Sometimes, and it only matters if you’re more focused on achieving their goals than yours. Delete and let it go.
  • I almost never have my ringer on or answer the phone. Why? Because I know the human brain takes 15 minutes to get back into its groove after a distraction. If I’m creating amazing work, a 5 minute phone call is a 20 minute time warp. It’s not worth it.
  • I batch task work and do it when I know my brain is tired or during chill time like watching Harry Potter or Rocky for the 90th time because my family loves to do that on a rainy day.
  • When a request is made of my time – to participate on a board, attend a meeting, give a talk – I never answer same day. I let the idea simmer to ensure it fits with my bigger work.

My role allows me to work this way. Yours may not, but I would still suggest that there is a better way for you too.  You just have to figure it out & be relentless about maintaining it.

Your life is worth it. And so is your joy.  Choose Well!
